UFI HYDROGEN industrialises and implements Membrane Electrode Assemblies (MEA) for the production and use of green hydrogen
UFI FILTERS GROUP, global leader in filtration and thermal management technologies, as well as technologies for the development of hydrogen mobility, presents UFI HYDROGEN: the Group’s NewCo dedicated to the research and development, implementation and industrialisation of CCM – catalyst coated membranes – MEA – Membrane Electrode Assemblies – a strategic component of both water electrolysers for the production of green hydrogen, and the fuel cell (Fuel Cell) for the use of green hydrogen in zero-emission mobility and ‘Stationary’ applications.
The company was founded after 7 years of research and development in the production of advanced filtering materials, aimed at developing technological innovations for the green hydrogen sector. UFI HYDROGEN, led by Marco Lazzaroni (CEO), is the only Italian company, and among few worldwide, to possess the know-how and skills for the industrial production of proton exchange membranes (PEM) for water electrolysis through renewable energy sources, for hydrogen fuel cells and for electrochemical compressors.
The new 14,000-square-metre industrial facility – 6,000 square metres of which will be indoors – will be located in Serravalle, in the province of Trento, and will open in the third quarter of 2024. The plant will initially employ around 30 people including researchers, technicians and production staff. Over the next four years, the company expects an investment of around 50 million euro and the creation of around 100 new jobs for the area.
UFI HYDROGEN will be one of the main players in the Hydrogen Valley 2025 to be built in Trentino and has already launched a series of important partnerships with the Autonomous Province of Trento and FBK (Bruno Kessler Foundation). UFI HYDROGEN is an international reality that can count on the world’s best researchers and engineers working together on green hydrogen technological innovation.
UFI HYDROGEN is headquartered in Italy, but is already active internationally in the main hydrogen markets, including of course Europe, the United States, China, Japan, Korea, India, Australia and Tunisia.
UFI HYDROGEN is participating in the European Hy2Move project, within the framework of the IPCEI (‘Important Projects of Common European Interest’) programme in cooperation with several European industrial groups, including Airbus, Michelin, BMW and HDF Energies.
